Troweled Adhesive Install

Recommended Concrete Conditions

We recommend that you floor be flat, smooth and free of surface blemishes and irregularities that might transfer through to the surface. We recommend that floors use a concrete skim coating, which is a self-leveling compound poured on the surface and spread-out to address any surface dips and elevations. Failure to prep the substrate to conform to ASTM F710 for concrete and other monolithic floors will not only increase your installation time, but will challenge your installation skills.

Additionally, it will impact the final visual appearance of your floor and can create gaps in your floor panels, as well as raised edges between floor panels. Failure to properly prepare your substrate is not considered a warranty or product defect.

Acclimate Materials Prior To Installation

Acclimate your materials in the environment where you are installing for at least 48-hours prior to installation. This is important, as materials require time to absorb the temperature for a proper installation of materials.

Preparation Prior to Installation

Concrete must be flat, smooth and have no coatings, contaminants, debris, dust, dirt or anything on the surface prior to application of adhesive. Any debris, dust, contaminant, etc., will interfere with the bonding of the adhesive to the concrete surface and diminish your bonding strength. First, broom sweep surface clean. Next use a vacuum to remove any dust and debris. Last, wash surface with clean water to remove any final debris prior to installation. Concrete subfloor must be clean, dry, smooth and free of any contamination, which may interfere with the adhesive bond.

Adhesive Application

Use a trowel with a 1/16” x 1/32” x 1/32” “U” notch with
Resilient Armour Adhesive on surface. Adhesive is to evenly applied across the surface of the concrete surface.

FOLLOW ADHESIVE MANUFACTURERS DIRECTIONS ON HOW TO APPLY, WHEN TO INSTALL PANELS, OPEN TIME BEFORE INSTALLATION AND ALL ASPECTS OF THAT SPECIFIC ADHESIVE. ALWAYS FOLLOW THE ADHESIVE MANUFACTURERS INSTRUCTIONS.

Commercial Vehicle Lifts

IMPORTANT: Consult with your RA commercial customer service contact on use of proper epoxy adhesive for use under vehicle lifts.

Application of Panels

Resilient Armour panels should fit neatly at all edges and align squarely
at each corner or juncture of four panels. Panels should fit flush at all side edges and end seams creating a true, square installation.

  • If excess adhesive gets on surfaces, you should wipe and immediately remove any adhesive from the surface with a wet cloth.
  • If concrete substrate is not flat, or has undulation or other imperfections, extra care and time must be devoted during installation to manipulate each tile for the best fit.
  • Scribe panels to walls, door jambs, columns, cabinets, floor outlets and other workshop drains, lifts, benches and equipment. Recess approximately 1/4" from walls.
  • For RA 4.5 and 5.0 panels, we recommend the use of RA-Cutter, which is a 60” wide panel cutter for tight, straight and perfect edges and cuts. You can also use the "hot knife" method which will aid cutting these thicker panels.
  • RA 3.0 panels can be cut with traditional methods, scribes, cutters, sharp cutting commercial flooring knife blades.
  • Spread adhesive using trowel. Adhesive ridges should dissipate before installing panel.
  • Review on adhesive cannister the working time to make sure that you follow the manufacturers open time frame for installing panels.
  • Use a 100 lb. hand roller and apply normal pressure to ensure a good bond.
  • Periodically lift flooring material to verify proper transfer of adhesive.
